It's not needed if you have systemd-sysvinit installed, but by the same
token, if you already have it in your menu.lst then the bootloader code
will simply preserve it when adding a new kernel. It's dumb code (in a
nice way!) so it's not specifically caring that it's an init= argument
or that it's anything to do with systemd.

So if you want cleaner boot command lines, just tidy up your menu.lst
manually and they will no longer be added to new kernels. Hope that
makes sense.
