Can I add a user perspective? I think that even proposing to add
proprietary drivers will alienate some people, and it's probably not
in Mageia's interest either. Instead, I have another proposal.

When the installation reaches the point where it has traditionally
asked if you want to update the packages, instead, have a paused page
which says that Mageia recommends immediate update, which can be done
through Mageia Control Center. It should also say that if proprietary
drivers or codecs are needed, the following sources should be enabled:
xxx (could be worded to include other non-core packages).

FWIW, I never expect the during-install update to work. I think it
was my cauldron install where it did work, and no-one was more
surprised than I was :-) I do believe it's the first time I've seen
it work in all the years I've been using this or related distros :-D
I suspect that it's fairly rare that the internet connection is
working in time for success.
