Think outside of a local machine. Extensions aren't used if something is
served over http. It uses the MIME type. That locally the extension
would be used to determine the MIME type still means it uses the MIME
type.

Locally a MIME type change doesn't have much of an effect. But it does
if your interact with others (http, etc).
