The *default common channel* of communication is the part that has been
lacking for the most part, while Max has opined a lack of performance
and participation as the root cause of much of the problems too.

I agree with Romain that a "merger" is NOT the answer, and offer that
keeping the two distinctly different, yet complimentary disciplines as
separate entities of the organization is the best course to stay.
