Fixed in trunk. Should work at https://identity-trunk.mageia.org . Affected 
users can use this site for now to register.

Can you provide the full error message, and the relevant input? We aren't 
logging these at present.

Umlauts etc. should be allowed, but don't currently display correctly in 
activation emails, in the site itself, but I am working on fixing that (fixed 
most display issues in the site in trunk, still need to fix emails).

I would like to fix this issue, before I merge all of trunk into live (which 
runs at https://identity.mageia.org), which will bring other fixes as well, 
soon.
