I also think it is the best of what was proposed. My ideas were (where I
write 'should' or 'must', please read 'from my point of view' ;) ):

- The name and logo must be present in the background.
- The transition from plymouth to dm must be smooth (even, if it is
possible, from grub to plymouth, but I think there is a short period
where kernel boot messages are on screen...).
- The center of the screen is the worst place to place the logo, as
dm's put their login/userlist dialog there, over the logo.

So... change everything in this way:
- use the same image (blue grid)
- put the logo at the bottom of the screen (upper 2/3, filled with
grid, lower 1/3, half grid/half silver with the cauldron and name).
- put the dots (or any progress graphics) in the central third
- on boot, the dots just fade into the gdm/kdm login dialog.
- for (if) smooth change is also possible from grub to plumouth, use
the same bg and put the grub os list at the top.
- if the grid is also the default desktop bg, you also get a smooth
transition from dm to user desktop.
