As far as I can tell, it's not obscured, it's missing.
There are three types of background: very light(2,5,8), very dark (1,4,6), in
between (3,7).
The three images that are very dark do not have a left button.

Update: there is a discussion about this on the ML (marcom and artwork) and we
hope to resolve this as soon as possible, hopefully this week.
