I encountered the same bug and reported it:

The problem appears to be related to the util-linux packages which results
in bad initrds whenever something triggers them to be rebuilt. I was able to
boot the Beta1 DVD into the Rescue System, mount the installation and
modify /boot/grub/menu.lst to specify the initrd-*.old file to get the
system
booting again. After that, see the bug report for which 4 packages to revert
until this bug gets fixed.
