I don't think, most people would have problems pronouncing hephaestus, at 
least not in Europe and America, since in the European languages there is some 
greek background to be found.

I would advice against "pot", since "Pott" is at least in German the nickname 
for some drug (don't ask me, which exactly,I don't take drugs).
