Are you on Cauldron or Mageia 1?

If you are on Cauldron it may be this issue:
https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2416
If that's the case you should run those two commands as root:
service networkmanager stop
chkconfig networkmanager --del

(Note: do it only if you're on Cauldron and if your issue looks like
bug #2416, for it will disable networkmanager which you maybe want to
use.)
