I'm trying out the Alpha 2 release. My system specs:
Dell Latitude E5510
120GB HD
4GB memory
Intel Core i5 CPU (Dual Core)
I'm testing with the 64Bit Mageia CD
Things that I've noted:
I used dd to burn the image to a 4GB memory stick, this worked well
During the install, Mageia had to over write the test version of Windows
8. I manually partitioned root, storage and home as XFS.
When I hit apply, a rectangular box popped up, but the contents of the
box was whited out. As if the box didn't completely redraw.
ALT F12 showed the text that said you need to reboot. Pressing ALT F7
got back to the graphical, but now the all the screen was whited out
with no visible buttons. Blindly pressing all over the area didn't help
any buttons to click.
Pressing ALT Backspace Backspace cleared the screen up, I was able to
see the, "You need to reboot" but had the option also to continue.
I continued at this point and the install finished.
The thing I didn't like is, it didn't offer an advanced option to select
the packages that I did/didn't want. I'm guessing though, this is
because it was a live CD?
Hopefully, it'll be available with the DVD installer.
I rebooted and finished specifying username, password and root password.
All hardware was detected (Except the 5 Series/3400 series chipset
thermal subsystem), which has never been detected by the distros I've
tested.
I will play around a bit more and report any other issues I come across.
