Found this in the /var/log/kernel/warnings.log

Aug 23 17:24:48 localhost kernel: [279707.076548] NVRM: API mismatch: the
client has the version 295.71, but

has the version 295.49. Please

Aug 23 17:24:48 localhost kernel: [279707.076550] NVRM: components have the
same version.

The 3.3.6 kernel system was already using the 295.71 driver so 295.49
does not make a lot of sense. This warning message is never repeated.
It appeared only on the first attempt to boot the new kernel.

Is there any way to rebuild the nvidia module against the 3.3.8 kernel
manually (in console mode after the nvidia load failure)?
