Some months ago I listened to a radio discussion regarding a
scientific paper that stated that studies prove the society cannot
thrive without lying.  My first reaction was disbelief, until I
thought about how many times we lie to spare the feelings of someone,
or simply to avoid discussion of a painful subject.  It does come as
something of a shock when you think of yourself as a truthful person,
but you are right, we lie more often than we like to think :-)
