I was wrong about the upgrade breaking it. Apparently, as installed in a
clean install from the DVD, icedtea-web doesn't work properly. I tried a
new install on another computer, and when I looked in Firefox the
icedtea plugin wasn't shown. This was before any upgrades. I removed the
icedtea-web package and installed it from the repositories. That did it
- the plugin showed up in Firefox and worked. Went through all the
upgrades, and it still works.
So I don't know what, but there's something wrong with the installation
of icedtea-web from the DVD.
