No :-(  No difference, even though I restarted the network service,
tried ifdown and ifup - still I have the temp configuration.  Since I
renamed the config file I wonder whether it's cached somewhere.

I have 500GB data to transfer over the lan.  Doing that at wifi speeds
is painful in the extreme.
