Hi Joris!

I am the coordinator of the French translation team. Here are a few
steps you should follow to be a full-fledged translator:
- Send me the username you registered on identity.mageia.org. Then I
will be able to add you to the mageia-i18n group, which gives you
access to all internationalisation related services (for now, it gives
access to transifex.mageia.org which is kind of broken, but it could
be useful that you are a member of this LDAP group when Transifex is
fixed/replaced by another software).
- I was going to add "Join the i18n-fr mailing list", but I just
realised you already did so.

Now for the translation process, here are a few things you need to know.
- For the blog translation (blog.mageia.org/fr), some members of the
i18n-fr team have access to the admin panel and can publish new
articles, approve new comments. But we work on the translations
collaboratively on a pad (such as bn.parinux.org): everyone can work
on the translation at the same time, and when it is good enough, one
of the contributors who have blog credentials can publish it.
- For the translation of Mageia's software, we have been using
Transifex for a while, but as said previously it is now behaving
erratically, so we refrain from using it. That means we have to go
back to translating directly from the Subversion repository
(svnweb.mageia.org/soft). For now the French strings are 100%
translated, but if it happens that one string has a wrong translation
or that new strings are added to the source, the process would be to
download the concerned fr.po from SVN, to edit it locally using
whichever tool you like to use, and to commit it back to SVN. Again,
there are only a few contributors with commit rights in each team, so
you would have to send it to me or to the i18n-fr ML so that the
translation can be pushed online.
- The website translation is currently going on, but it relies on
Romain's work, and he is quite busy being almost the only active
member of the web team. So we have to wait for his input. You can
already have a look at the mails sent about www translation lately.
- As said by lebarhon, the wiki translation will start soon, but I
can't say when.
