afaik he meant to drop the hal option from compiling, ie: compile without hal 
support

I kind of agree with you, but i guess this is why it's proposed here. To see 
who supports it and who doesn't.

personally, if this is as painless as mikala and ahmad think it is, i would 
feel it would be ok, if it was proposed a month ago. Now, i don't know, afaik 
there haven't been alot of distros yet released without hal atm. So even 
though alot of people are behind this, for mageia 1, we do have older versions 
of programs.

I think they are wanting to see if someone can prove them that app X would be 
missing functionality if hal support was removed from now.

but imho, it needs to be tested by non-dev users before something can be 
proclaimed.

Also, i guess it means they don't want to keep supporting it. but imho, mageia 
release 1 isn't so far off anymore and there is still alot of work to be done 
for it. I do give my blessing to drop hal completely after release 1, though.
