[Mageia-discuss] Update from Mandriva to Mageia

I have just tried an update from Mandriva, in part because I couldn't update
from 2010 to 2011 due to problems with Mandriva package install, missing
dependencies and memory leaks.

All went well apart from a few packages (not vital) not installing due to
Mandriva/Mageia conflicts.

I had no problem rebooting, maybe because I had chosen an upgrade.

I did have a problem with the hal daemon not starting before trying to get
updates, and could get no updates before I'd rebooted.

I also got a Gnome disk notification error while Gnome came up, but the
Gnome Bugzilla couldn't connect to send it.

I'll report again after I've updated everything and added more packages. I
am trying to update right now.

One suggestion, because I upgraded the only kernels that are named are
Mandriva. I had to guess which were the Mageia kernels. They were just
labelled 'Linux' which was different to any Mandriva one but of course that
can be changed if I relabelled.

If I'm successful with the cross-distro upgrade, next step is a clean
install.

I am using the i586 version with a single AMD 2 GHZ processor, 512 MB of RAM
and an Nvidia FX5200 graphics card. The card often prevents a gfx
bootsplash.
