If the LiveCD works fine then it is likely you were just missing nonfree
firmware/drivers which your particular hardware required. If you
installed from the 'free software only' dvd then that is the reason you
didn't have it.

Mageia3 installer dvd will also carry nonfree since we rearranged all
the ISOs, so should be problem solved.

Of course you could have installed the required nonfree bits from the
nonfree online medias after installing from the 'free software only' dvd
or installed mga2 from livecd which should also have the nonfree bits
your system seems to need.
